Physicians Insurance Supports Cyber Security CME Event in Worcester
On (March 13, 2019), the Cyber-Security — What You Need to Know for Your Professional and Personal Life continuing medical education event, which was sponsored by the Worcester District Medical Society’s Women’s Caucus, was held at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester, MA, as part of the Women In Medicine Leadership Forum. For the first time in 25 years, the forum was open to not just members of the district but to all. Since our inception in 1993, Physicians Insurance (PI), the insurance agency of the Massachusetts Medical Society, has regularly co-sponsored this annual forum, and this year, two representatives from PI — President Thomas Bryant, ARM, and Marketing Coordinator Meghan Stanley — attended the event.

Cyber Risk Management
As technology has become a widespread necessity of business, so has the need for both risk management and insurance solutions to mitigate technology breaches and hacker attacks. Hacker attacks have been increasing in both frequency and severity and can be devastating to physician practices as can accidental technology breaches, which can lead to identity theft and fraud impacting the patients and the practice entity. Events like this may also result in HIPAA violations requiring various levels of notification depending on the size of the breach.
