Deborah Kelley, Operations Manager
Deborah Kelley’s clients know that she’s there for them.
Working with clients is what Deborah likes best about her job. “We build strong working relationships with our physicians and practice managers.”
Building relationships in health care is something the Physicians Insurance operations manager has been doing her whole career. Before she transitioned to insurance, Deborah worked as a toxicologist, getting a first-hand look into work life in hospitals and medical practices. “I saw how hard physicians, nurses, and clinicians work for their patients,” she said. Now, in her role as operations manager at Physicians Insurance, she makes sure her clients know she’s working hard for them. “Communication is an important part of that,” she added.
When Deborah joined Physicians Insurance 22 years ago, she quickly noticed that a lot of the physicians with whom she’d worked were clients of Physicians Insurance. “At that time, they would come into the office and meet with the agents. I wrote the policy for my internship director at Waltham Hospital,” she said.
The way her clients communicate with the agency has changed since then. Now, it’s phone calls and emails whenever physicians have time. But they still know they can count on Deborah to help with their questions. “If I don’t have an answer right away, I let them know I’m working on it,” she said. “They contact us, and they’re happy to talk to a real person.”
We specialize in insurance for physicians
Deborah points out that, as a local agency working exclusively with health care clients, Physicians Insurance is able to provide very personalized service and expertise that larger agencies can’t. Deborah specializes in professional liability insurance for physicians. “We understand the risks, so we don’t sell our customers more insurance than they need. We get them the right coverage, and we make sure it’s accurate,” she said.
This specialization in insurance for physicians means that Physicians Insurance has built strong relationships with insurance companies, which benefits their clients.
“We’re a leading broker for physician professional liability policies, so I talk to the insurance underwriters all the time,” she said. Other agencies write insurance policies for physicians as only part of their business. Physicians Insurance exclusively works with health care.
“We know how to find discounts and benefits for our customers. Brokers who don’t write a lot of medical professional liability policies don’t know about these discounts. We know what is available, and we know what our customers need.”
This deep expertise, coupled with the personalized service Deborah and our other agents provide, sets Physicians Insurance apart from other brokers and keeps customers coming back. “The vast majority of our customers are repeat business or referrals from other customers,” Deborah said.
Insuring Physicians Their Whole Careers
Deborah also writes the policies for the Massachusetts Medical Society Committee on Senior Volunteers—retired physicians who continue to practice as volunteers in the community. “We make sure they have the insurance they need so that they can continue to contribute their skills to help underserved patients.”
“We’re here for physicians when they start their career, and we’re here for them all the way through retirement,” Deborah said. “We insure our customers during every phase of their careers.”
