Update from Tom Bryant, President of Physicians Insurance
Hello everyone,
Welcome to our new Physicians Insurance blog. In the coming months, we hope to engage you with an approach that blends industry-related articles, resources, news, and insurance opinion that physicians and administrators will find of interest. Today, I have an update from our Board of Directors and will briefly share events of the past 12 months.
Just over a year ago we celebrated our 25th anniversary. In the year since, we have reflected on where the worlds of medicine and medical professional liability have been, and what may be ahead. The best practice for us in such times of change has always been to listen and seek to understand your needs. With that in mind, some of our decisions this year were comparatively simple — we added insurance companies; we began updating the insurance seminars we offer to physician groups at various stages of their careers; and we made strategic decisions about our charitable giving, which is focused on supporting health care causes. We also evaluated how best to communicate our story, to both existing clients and to your colleagues who don’t yet know us, so that our success would allow us to do more on your behalf.
Communicating our story led us to a brand refresh that was unveiled at the Interim Meeting of the Massachusetts Medical Society in late November. That day we announced that PIAM is now Physicians Insurance. And at the same time, we rolled out a new logo, which flowed out of our original logo. If you have not seen it, please visit www.piam.com and view the brief video clip showing the transformation. We also completely rebuilt our website — optimizing for an increasingly digital world and to allow you to ask for what you need more simply. PIAM may now be Physicians Insurance, but the traditional values you have come to expect have not changed. We are here to serve you exclusively, and we place physicians first. Over the months since the Interim Meeting, we have heard many positive comments about these changes, and we welcome hearing your thoughts.
Which brings me to some news. This month, we welcome a new chair to our Board of Directors. George Ghareeb, MD, an eye surgeon, has chosen to step back to a director role after serving as the board chair for 15 of his 26 years on our Board. After consideration of two fine nominees and a vote by the Board of Directors, Jim Gessner, MD, an anesthesiologist, has agreed to serve as chair. Dr. Gessner has been a member of our Board since 2017 and is a well-known recent past president of the Massachusetts Medical Society. Welcome, Dr. Gessner! And thank you for accepting the baton from Dr. Ghareeb.
That’s all for now. Thank you, Physicians Insurance clients, for standing with us. With your continued support and the word of mouth that so often sends your colleagues our way, we can continue to make a difference.
Best,
Thomas J. Bryant, ARM
